Dear FOIA Officer:

Pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:

All records in the case file for the IG investigation, including all complaints and interviews, which resulted in a report titled, "Investigative Report of Office of Law Enforcement and Security Technology Division." There is no Report Number given in the public version of the report, but the Report Date is Thursday, July 16, 2015, and the public report is published here:
https://www.doioig.gov/sites/doioig.gov/files/OLES_TechnologyDivision.pdf

Given that former Rep. Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming mentioned the subject of the investigation by name multiple times during a House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing in July 2015 (see https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy/2015/07/government-it-official-ran-law-enforcement-data-systems-for-years-with-faked-degrees/), I ask that you refrain from redacting the subject's name.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

As a freelance journalist, I expect to be placed in your news media category. As evidence of my publication record, here are links to some of my articles:

https://news.nationalgeographic.com/2018/02/wildlife-watch-sea-cucumbers-illegal-wildlife-trade-coral-reefs/

Furthermore, I request a fee waver on the grounds that this information is likely to contribute significantly to public understanding of the operations and activities of the government—i.e., the integrity of security clearances for senior government officials —and I am not making this request for commercial purposes.

However, if you do require fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me if the total charges exceed $25.

I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 20 business days, as the statute requires.

Thank you very much for your time.

Sincerely,

Maraya Cornell

Dear FOIA Officer,

I'm writing to follow up on a request that was forwarded to your office from the Office of Inspector General. The request was originally submitted to the OIG on August 26, 2019. During their review, the OIG identified 82 pages of responsive documents that originated with the Office of the Secretary. In a letter to me dated September 23, 2019, OIG advised me that they had referred those pages to you (see attached letter).

Please let me know whether you have received the forwarded documents, whether your office has assigned the request a separate tracking number, and when I may expect to receive the documents.

Regards,
Maraya
