From: National Archives and Records Administration

Dear JPat Brown,

This is in response to your Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request dated
December 5, 2017 for records in the custody of the National Archives and
Records Administration (NARA). You requested access to Federal Bureau of
Investigation (FBI) case file 100-NY-122142, which was identified by the
FBI as potentially responsive to your request for records pertaining to
Audre Lorde. Your request was received in this office on December 6, 2017
and assigned reference number *RD 55503*.

We located and surveyed case file 100-NY-122142. The subject of the file
is Audrey Lorde, also known as Audre Lorde. The file consists of 20 pages
within 1 section and was compiled between the years 1954 and 1972.

A line-by-line review had previously been completed on the file and
information was released to the greatest extent possible. The file was
redacted to protect the identities of confidential sources per 5 USC 552
(b)(7)(D). We have attached a copy of the file to this correspondence for
your convenience. A summary of the results of this review is provided
below:

• FBI case file 100-NY-122142: 20 total pages, 16 pages released in full
and 4 pages released in redacted form.

This concludes the processing of your request in this office. If you have
additional questions concerning our review of this file, please contact me
directly via email at jennifer.namsiriwan@nara.gov or via phone at
301-837-3463.

If you are not satisfied with our action on this request, you have the
right to file an administrative appeal within ninety (90) calendar days
from the date of this letter. Appeals must be in writing and may be
delivered by regular U.S. mail or by e-mail. By filing an appeal, you
preserve your rights under the FOIA and give the agency a chance to review
and reconsider your request and the agency’s decision. If you submit your
appeal in writing, please address it to the Deputy Archivist of the United
States (ND), National Archives and Records Administration, 8601 Adelphi
Road, College Park, Maryland 20740. Both the letter and the envelope
should be clearly marked “Freedom of Information Act Appeal.” If you
submit your appeal by email, please send it to FOIA@nara.gov, also
addressed to the Deputy Archivist of the United States, with the words
“FOIA Appeal” in the subject line. Please be sure to explain why you
believe this response does not meet the requirements of the FOIA. All
correspondence should reference your internal case tracking number *RD
55503*.

If you would like to discuss our response before filing an appeal to
attempt to resolve your dispute without going through the appeals process,
you may contact our FOIA Public Liaison, Martha Wagner Murphy, for
