To Whom It May Concern:

This is a request under the Freedom of Information Act. I hereby request the following records:

-All privacy impact assessments submitted by any Justice Department component, division or unit for automatic license plate recognition (ALPR), license plate reader (LPR) or similar devices that use high-speed cameras to read passing license plates for comparison against a list of target plates and/or to capture geolocation data for passing plates at a given date and time.
-All materials submitted as part of the Initial Privacy Assessment process for the above devices, as well as the OPCL determination regarding the need for a PIA
-All supporting documentation submitted along with the above PIA(s), particularly the separate application(s) for proposed redactions required to be submitted under the 2012 OPCL PIA guidance.

Given that this FOIA is submitted in my capacity as a journalist who has covered the Department of Justice and law enforcement extensively, I request that I be categorized as a media requester for the purpose of fees. Here is a selection of my published articles on MuckRock:

This is a preliminary estimate at this time that will likely be modified as our searching is completed, and the volume and complexity of the material is evaluated. We will be able to provide a more accurate estimate once our searches have been completed and we have conducted an initial review of the responsive material.
