One such email from Mr. Wierdsma was quoted as saying:

"I understand that you currently have no plans to move out of our home. I will be copying the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement with this and other information. As you know, I funded the legal work and processing fees for you to become a citizen, but am now disappointed in your actions which now require legal proceedings." May 07, 2015 Beryl Lipton MuckRock News DEPT MR 15077 PO Box 55819 Boston, MA 02205-5819 RE:     ICE FOIA Case Number 2015-ICFO-80259 Dear Ms. Lipton: This acknowledges receipt of your May 04, 2015, Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), for all emails sent by Thomas Wierdsma directly to representatives of Immigration and Customs Enforcement and all emails received from Mr. Wierdsma by representatives of ICE as the result of a "cc" or a "bcc".  Your request was received in this office on May 07, 2015. After careful review of your FOIA request, we determined that your request is too broad in scope, did not specifically identify the records which you are seeking, or only posed questions to the agency.  Records must be described in reasonably sufficient detail to enable government employees who are familiar with the subject area to locate records without placing an unreasonable burden upon the agency.  For this reason, §5.3(b) of the DHS regulations, 6 C.F.R. Part 5, require that you describe the records you are seeking with as much information as possible to ensure that our search can locate them with a reasonable amount of effort.  Whenever possible, a request should include specific information about each record sought, such as the date, title or name, author, recipients, and subject matter of the records, if known, or the ICE program office you believe created and/or controls the record. The FOIA does not require an agency to create new records, answer questions posed by requesters, or attempt to interpret a request that does not identify specific records. Please resubmit your request containing a reasonable description of the records you are seeking.  Upon receipt of a perfected request, you will be advised as to the status of your request. If we do not hear from you within 10 days from the date of this letter, we will assume you are no longer interested in this FOIA request, and the case will be administratively closed.  Please be advised that this action is not a denial of your request and will not preclude you from filing other requests in the future. Your request has been assigned reference number 2015-ICFO-80259. Please refer to this identifier in any future correspondence. To check the status of an ICE FOIA/PA request, please visit . Hi there,

This request was initially assigned 2015-ICFO-80259.

Thank you.

From: ICE-FOIA

Hello Ms. Lipton,

We sent a ‘too broad’ email on May 7, 2015 to the email address requests@muckrock.com<mailto:requests@muckrock.com> and put it on an administrative hold. On June 3, 2015 it was closed by one of our analysts, presumably having not received clarification back.

Sincerely,
ICE FOIA
