To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Texas Public Information Act, I hereby request the following records:

Vape related incidents amongst people in Texas. I would also like to know if there have been any deaths caused by vaping, and how many people have been affected by vape related illnesses around Texas. Additionally, how prevalent is vaping in Texas. Is there a city in Texas were vaping is more prevalent?

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Karen Valencia

Ms. Valencia,

Good morning. The best information on e-cigarette, or vaping, associated lung injury (EVALI), an outbreak of lung injury cases investigated in 2019 and early 2020, is in the Update on Investigation of Vaping-Related Pulmonary Illness<https://www.dshs.state.tx.us/tobacco/pdf/Vaping-White-Paper.pdf> from earlier this year.

I've also attached the data we have on vaping prevalence among high school students from the Youth Risk Behavior Survey. We don't have city level data but included data by metropolitan statistical area data where there were enough survey results.

This will complete your request.
