The agreement, memorandum of understanding or contract between UT Austin and IBM regarding the use of Watson, IBM's supercomputer, issued between 2013 and the time this request is processed. I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as I believe this request is in the public interest. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.
In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

The correspondence pertaining to your Open Records Request is attached. Please be advised that the IBM Watson Prototype Development Agreement is not available for release until the Attorney General’s Office issues their AG Letter Ruling. Generally, the Attorney General issues a decision no later than the 45th working day after the date the AG receives the request for a decision (on/about April 15, 2015).

Open Records Request - UT Austin (ARM Holdings)

Hello Mr. Nash:
Once again, you inquired about the status of your Open Records Request for the agreement between UT Austin and IBM for the use of Watson, IBM’s supercomputer. Please be advised that this document is still at the Attorney General’s Office pending issuance of an AG Letter Ruling that will instruct UT Austin whether or not to release the requested document to you.
Presently, we have received no word from the AG that they have issued their ruling. Generally, the Attorney General “shall promptly render a decision not later than the 45th working day after the date the AG receives the request for a decision.” You will receive a copy of the AG Letter Ruling when it is issued. Until then, we estimate the AG should issue their AG Letter Ruling on/about May 1st.

Our records indicate that the Attorney General's Office has not issued their AG Letter Ruling for this request. Generally, they have 45th working days after the date the AG receives the request to issue their ruling. We estimate we will receive the ruling as early as next week or as late at May 1, 2015.
When the AG issues their AG Letter Ruling, it is their standard practice to provide the requestor with a copy of their ruling.
