To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Texas Public Information Act, I hereby request the following records:

Any records, memos, monthly reports, statistics, etc. On how covid 19 has affected things like court filings, conviction rates, average times of things, average costs of things, etc.
While this request is exceptionally broad in scope, I’m not seeking thousands of responsive documents.

I’m seeking to understand how overall trends have fared, are some types of convictions up, are others down. Have divorce rates skyrocketed in densely populated cities, etc, etc, etc.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

John Ricker

Dear Mr. Ricker,

I am writing to you regarding your attached request under the Texas Public Information Act, which I am construing as a request for judicial records under Rule 12 of the Texas Rules of Judicial Administration. You requested copies of records, memos, and monthly reports on how Covid-19 has affected case filings, conviction rates, the and the average time and cost of things.

Please note that there are no judicial records on statistics specifically addressing the impact of the pandemic on the judiciary. However, monthly reports filed by the trial courts with the Office of Court Administration are available at https://card.txcourts.gov/default.aspx. An impact of the virus may be reflected in these reports.
