At the Tampa Police Department we have what we call "extra duty," which is our term for off duty. The difference is that when our officers are working as officers - whether it is their regular shift or extra duty - they are working as on-duty officers, with all the responsibilities and powers of a regular on-duty officer.

I have attached our policy regarding extra duty. It is quite lengthy. I have also attached the paperwork that a business would fill out to arrange for an extra duty officer.

As for your second request, we don't sort by regular duty vs. extra duty. I would have to go through complaints to see which, if any, related to an extra duty assignment. Would you care to limit your timeframe, so the request won't be tremendously time consuming/expensive? It's up to you.

Please let me know you received this.

Officer Hegarty,

I apologize for not responding much sooner, I have been very hectic this past month. I would gladly limit my timeframe. Would a year do it? I could even go down to 6 months or less if you feel that would provide a lower fee for me and less work for your agency. Let me know what you think, thank you, and again I do apologize.

Sincerely,
Curtis Waltman

Mr. Waltman,
I have attached copies of complaints regarding "extra duty" officers for 2016 and year-to-date 2017. Please note that a couple of them were vague and the complainant wasn't even sure that TPD was involved. I included them because they were complaints that may have involved an officer working extra duty.

Please let me know that you got this. Earlier I provided our SOPs regarding "extra duty" work by officers.
