To Whom It May Concern:
Pursuant to the Connecticut Freedom of Information Act, I hereby request the following records:
Your office's catalog, inventory, index, log, report, or other listing of (1) the books in your possession or control which registrars used to record birth, marriages, deaths, and burials before 1900 (including any Land Records books and/or Town or Proprietors Meeting/Minutes/Record books which include any records of birth, marriages and deaths) and (2) other books, records, and documents in your possession or control which index, copy, regroup, reference or support town birth, deaths and marriages, including communications or reports of communication from ministers, justices of the peace, sextons, and other witnesses to any aspect of births, marriages, burials, and/or deaths prior to 1900.
I also request that, if possible and pursuant to Conn. Gen. Stat. § 1-212(d), fees be waived as I believe this request is in the public interest and not made for commercial gain. The requested documents will be processed by a representative of the news media/press and made available to the public at MuckRock.com.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 4 business days, as the statute requires.
I have received your request for the town of Southbury's vital records and burials before 1900. Our vitals are in paper format only and we would have to photo copy each record. The fee is .50 a page, which would be a large amount of pages. Our office is open Monday to Thurs 8:00am to 4:30pm and Friday 8:00am to 1:00pm if you would like to send someone in to our office.
E-mail correspondence is maintained in accordance with applicable provisions of State law and may be considered public records. Public disclosure of your communication may be required. If you have received this email in error please notify your system manager or delete the email immediately.
I am not requesting copies of your pre- 1900 vital records and burials. I am just requesting a copy of your list of the books. notebooks, etc. which contain them., e.g., "Vol. __, Births, Marriages, and Deaths, 1848-1905."
I did not interpret your request for just a list of Volumes that we have.
Vol 1 Town Journal pages 120 to 150 - Births Marriages & Deaths approximate start & end date is 1774 to 1821. Vol 2 Town Journal page 108 to 127, Births 1770 to 1835. Vitals Vol 2 Births Marriages Death - 1868 to 1905. Vol 3 Births Marriage Death 1906-1949. Vital Statistic of the Town of Southbury, Conn -Taken from Early Church Records book.
What about the Southbury Registrar’s “Records of Births, Marriages, and Deaths, 1848-1905,” a very detailed volume probably organized by school district. Don't you have this anymore?
Again, this is the vital information in Southbury:
Vol 1 1847-1878; Vol 2 1868-1905; Vol 3 1906-1949 also Town Journal Vol 1 1774-1821; Town Journal Vol 2 Births 1770-1835
