Dear John Lindsay-Poland,

This is in response to your California Public Records Act request that was received on November 1, 2021. The Shasta County Sheriff’s Office is working diligently to fulfill your request. However, we will not be finished researching whether we hold public, non-exempt responsive records within ten days of the receipt of your request. Therefore, we are extending our response time pursuant to Government Code section 6253(c). I anticipate that we will be able to provide you with a further response by November 24, 2021.

Please contact me if you have any questions about this response.

Dear John Lindsay-Poland,

This is a further response to your California Public Records Act (CPRA) request that was received on November 1, 2021.

Please find attached records that we understand to be responsive to your request items numbered 1 and 2.

For your request item number 3, the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office does not maintain deployment records. However, the use of less lethal force would be found within a number of different types of criminal and investigatory reports. Therefore, to locate these records, we would have to search through hundreds of reports to determine which are responsive. In that respect, the Sheriff’s Office objects to your request as unduly burdensome pursuant to Government Code section 6255.

Please contact me if you would like to discuss this response, or if you have any questions or other requests.

Respectfully,

Dear Jenea Ashe,

Thank you very much for your response to my Public Records Act request.

Unfortunately, the attached file that is visible to me in your email is not a file of records responsive to my request, as your email references, but a graphic on downloading Adobe Acrobat (see attached). Is it possible for you to re-send this file?

In addition, I understand your response regarding Request #3, for deployment records of equipment. I would appreciate a chance to discuss this with you, especially because new state legislation will require law enforcement agencies that maintain these types of equipment to publish annual reports on their use. This in turn will require agencies to have a capacity and internal organization of records to permit production of such reports.

Is it possible to schedule a call with you during the week of November 29?

Thanks much.
