To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the California Public Records Act (California Government Code §§ 6250), I hereby request the following records:

Records containing the names, dates, place of death, and if available occupation and employer of all people, who've committed suicide since 2010.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Sincerely,

Gershon Bialer

Thank you for your request, which has been forwarded to the staff members responsible for responding to a records act request.

I wanted to provide information on the recommendations for reporting and blogging on suicide. As you probably know, there is a risk for more suicides when stories describe the suicide method or use dramatic headlines or images, and even when there is repeated or extensive coverage. We strongly encourage following these guidelines to reduce the risk of additional suicides.

It is also critically important to include links or information about treatment services, warning signs and hotline numbers. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 800-273-TALK (8255) is one such resource and we urge reporters to include this number and other resources in a story or post about suicide.

Thank you in advance for responsible journalism. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about reporting on suicide.
