Pursuant to the California Public Records Act, I hereby request the following records:

1. The total number of police use of force incidents, broken down by type of force used, between 2013-2017 (separated by year).
2. The total number of people that police used force against, between 2013-2017 (separated by year).
3. The total number of police use of force complaints reported between 2013-2017 (separated by year).
4. The total number of police use of force complaints sustained between 2013-2017 (separated by year).

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 calendar days, as the statute requires.

The Santa Barbara Police Department is in receipt of your faxed requests of January 30, 2019 and February 4, 2019 in which you request records for:

1. The total number of police use of force incidents, by type of force used, between 2013-2017, preferably separated by year.

2. The total number of people that police used force against, between 2013-2017, preferably separated by year.

3. The total number of police use of force complaints reported between 2013-2017, preferably separated by year

4. The total number of police use of force complaints sustained between 2013-2017, preferably separated by year

In order to conduct a thorough voluminous search for records responsive to your request, we will need until February 27, 2018 to determine if records exist. If we determine records exist before February 27, 2019, we will notify you when the reports are available if not exempt for public disclosure.

Reproduction fees are 20 cents per printed page and $25 per CD for electronic media including photographs, video and audio files.

I will advise you in advance of the costs associated with obtaining records prior to production.
