Pursuant to the California Public Records Act, I hereby request the following records:

All completed job applications from prospective applicants to the police department dating from January 1, 2014 to July 1, 2021. In particular I am looking for (but not restricted to) the following information from each applicant: date application received and/or processed, application unique identifier (if exists), gender/sex (if exists), race (if exists), and any resume/CV/cover letters attached. However, any and all information of the applicantion that is available is most preferred.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 calendar days, as the statute requires.

Good afternoon, Mr. Topper-

Regarding your request,

Request: All completed job applications from prospective applicants to the police department dating from January 1, 2014 to July 1, 2021. However, any and all information of the application that is available is most preferred.

SJPD Response: The records you are seeking are considered to be personnel records under Government Code 6254(c) and subdivision (e) of Penal Code Section 832.8. Personnel records are considered confidential under Penal Code 832.7 and therefore are exempt from public disclosure under Government Code 6254(c) and (k). The Department is able to provide the number of applicants from 2016-2020. The Department is also able to provide the number of applicants from 2020-present with ethnicities and genders, however, this information is comprised from employees that chose to voluntarily self-identify their ethnicity. Please let me know if you wish to proceed in receiving those numbers.
