Good morning, Mr. Sinyangwe-
In processing your request, the Crime Analysis Unit (CAU) has informed me the data you are seeking does not exist and a new query would need to be run, possibly resulting in a fee. The CAU has indicated some clarification is needed for item #3. Please see below.
1. Call Type - or reason for the call, can be a code or a narrative description of the call- Initial call type available
2. Call logistics details by date, time, and location- Available (Location will be provided in block format)
3. Call Response - who was dispatched and how many were dispatched- Please clarify what you mean by "who." What details are you seeking?
4. Call Disposition - response (what action was taken). This can be an arrest, arrest code, narrative description, citation, warning, referral, or something else).- Final disposition is available
5. Call Demographics - Who was impacted - excluding responders - by the call, Number of people and their demographics (race/ethnicity, gender, age - adult/juvenile)- Data not available within the records management system
6. Call end or resolution - date and time resolved- Should be available
7. Disposition code descriptions (a narrative description of codes used) - If disposition includes an arrest, provide linking information from the call for service to the booking or arrest data- Available. If disposition includes an arrest, the CAD event number does not always result in an incident number. This depends on the crime type/level.
Once I receive that clarification, the CAU can provide me with any possible fees and a turnaround time.
Thank you,
-April

Hello April,
In concerns to #3, I would like to know if police officers or another service provider was dispatched to the site of the call.
Let me know if that clears things up and if there will be any costs involved.
Thanks!
From: San Jose Police Department
Good evening,
Thank you for the clarification. I will relay this information to the Crime Analysis Unit and request an estimated turnaround time as well as any possible fees associated with the query.
Thank you,
-April

Good afternoon,
I apologize for the delay. This was escalated to a supervisor at the Crime Analysis Unit (CAU) and I just now heard back from CAU staff.
Regarding your PRA request:
Request: Calls for service by type of call, type of call by disposition (e.g. arrest and arrest code or type or arrest - misdemeanor or felony, citation, warning). Please include demographics (age, gender, race/ethnicity) of those contacted by dispatch. Specifically we request the following information for 2019 and 2020:

2. Call logistics details by date, time, and location

6. Call end or resolution - date and time resolved
7. Disposition code descriptions (a narrative description of codes used) - If disposition includes an arrest, provide linking information from the call for service to the booking or arrest data
SJPD Response: The Crime Analysis Unit (CAU) has advised me that they are able to provide the data requested. However, a query for a portion of the request does not exist.
Government Code Subsection 6253.9(b) allows a local government agency to recover "costs of producing a copy of the record, including the cost to construct a record, the cost of programming and computer services necessary to produce a copy of the record" in two situations:
1. In order to comply with the provisions of subdivision (a), the public agency would be required to produce a copy of an electronic record and the record is one that is produced only at otherwise regularly scheduled intervals.
2. The request would require data compilation, extraction, or programming to produce the record.
The current Fee Schedule (http://www.sjpd.org/records/fees_public_safety.asp) requires $140.00 per hour to cover these costs. The CAU estimates 15 minutes to query these records. Should you desire to proceed with this request, a payment of $35.00 is required before the request will be processed, based on the estimate provided by CAU. Payment via check should be made payable to "City of San Jose" and delivered or mailed to my attention at:
San Jose Police Department
Research and Development Unit - PRA
201 W. Mission Street
San Jose, CA 95110
Upon receipt of payment, our Crime Analysis Unit will be notified, and your request will be placed in the queue for staff to process. The CAU estimates a turnaround time of 4-5 weeks to have the records completed.
Thank you,
-April

Good afternoon,
I just heard back from the CAU that they were able to get records from our Systems Development Division. Specifically regarding the call response portion of the request, they are able to provide a count of those listed as dispatched under each event. If that is okay with you, please advise and they can continue with providing the data.
Thank you,
