Hi, thanks for sending this. My request specified the number of uses of force broken down by *type of force used*. Can you please re-send the use of force statistics with breakdowns showing the number of each type of force used per year.

Thanks,

Sam

From: San Francisco Sheriff's Department

Hello Sam,

As stated in the email, we do not track each different type of force used. We can only provide you the the number of incidents in which some type of force was used.

Dear Sam,

We received your appeal on your request on our use of force statistics, particularly, the type of force used in each incident where it occurred. . As we stated previously, we do not track, nor do we have that type of data in our records. I double checked with our reports person and was informed we do not track that type of data. A PRA request only applies to records which already exist in the SFSO's possession. We do not track the various different types of force used. We only can provide the total number of incidents in which some type of use of force was used. The department cannot be required to create a record, compilation or list, for something we do not have through a PRA request. Again, all requests are limited only to records maintained in the normal course of business and that are in the San Francisco Sheriff's Office custody and control. I hope you find this response satisfactory.
