Pursuant to the California Public Records Act, I hereby request the following records:

Pursuant to the California's Sunshine Amendment (Cal. Const. Art. I, § 3(b)), and following a recent decision by the California Supreme Court (ACLU of So. Cal. v. Superior Court) I hereby request the following records:

All license plate scan data collected by automated license plate recognition (ALPR) scanners, both mobile and fixed, with plate number IDs having been anonymized. Please include all data stored on police servers. The data should include at least the location of scan in latitude and longitude or the highest geographical resolution available, time of scan, and anonymized ID number of the plate.

I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as I believe this request is in the public interest. The requested documents will be used as part of a research project associated with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in part to better understand commuting patterns in major U.S. Cities, with the research results published publicly and not for commercial usage.

In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not. I prefer that the data is shared in a digital / electronic format that is machine-readable or readable by screen readers (i.e. not a PDF or scan of a physical document).
