To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the California Public Records Act, I hereby request the following records:

Materials obtained or compiled during the investigation of the mass suicide of The Heaven's Gate group, that took place in Rancho Santa Fe, a suburb in San Diego county on March 26th, 1997. Included but not limited to any video, audio, photographs or documents, collected during the investigation, floppy disks recovered from the scene as well as crime scene video, some of which had previously been released to the news media.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 calendar days, as the statute requires.

Records of a law enforcement investigation, or any investigatory or security files compiled by a law enforcement agency are exempt from disclosure. Cal. Gov't. Code ยง 6254(f); Haynie v. Superior Court (2001) 26 Cal. 4th 1061, 1071-72. Thus, your request is denied.
