To Whom It May Concern:
Pursuant to the Minnesota Data Practices Act, I hereby request the following two records:
1) The total number of firearms reported stolen to your department in 2015.
2) The total number of firearms reported stolen from motor vehicles to your department in 2015.
I submitted on July 21 and 22 requests for police reports related to the theft of firearms from motor vehicles and asking for the total number of automobile burglaries in 2015. If you have not already completed that request, please complete this one first if possible.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I would request your response within ten (10) business days.
You reference a data request below which you stat you submitted July 21 and July 22nd. I am unable to locate those requests. Could you please re-send them to me? I can then forward to the appropriate unit.

The July 21 and 22 requests were seeking the following records:
Police reports for every motor vehicle burglary and/or larceny from a motor vehicle in which a firearm was stolen in 2015.
To Whom It May Concern:
I wanted to follow up on the following Freedom of Information request, copied below, and originally submitted on Aug. 2, 2016. Please let me know when I can expect to receive a response, or if further clarification is needed.
Thanks for your help, and let me know if further clarification is needed.
From a request earlier this year, the St. Paul police department in 2015 wrote 14 case numbers 123 firearms that were lost or stolen. If you would like the police reports, we are happy to process your request. Pursuant to Minnesota State Statute 13.03 we are able to charge fees in Minnesota for data requests. I estimate the cost of your request will exceed $50 for reports "for every motor vehicle burglary and/or larceny from a motor vehicle in which a firearm was stolen in 2015."
We will require a down payment of $50 to process the rest of your request. Please make out the check to "St. Paul Police Department" and send it to me, Commander Dan
Malmgren, Technology Unit, 367 Grove Street, St. Paul, MN 55101. Upon receiving the check, we will start processing the rest of your request. The balance of the cost will be billed upon completion.
Commander Dan Malmgren
Thank you Commander Malmgren. I think we might hold off on the police reports for now. Just to be clear, you had 14 cases, in which a total of 123 firearms were stolen? Were those firearms stolen from all sources (businesses, homes, cars, etc.)? If so, can you tell me how many of those were stolen from cars?
I am sorry, I misspoke about the February request. The request was for the number of guns lost or stolen by year from 2005 to 2015, and they wanted the statistics broken down from a vehicle versus all reports made. Here is the result of the work.
Firearms Reported Lost or Stolen from Vehicle
Firearms Reported Lost or Stolen
This is great info Thanks! I'm marking this request complete.
