Hi,

Under the state public records law, I am a journalist writing to request data from your department as part of a national project on stolen firearms. Can your department please provide the following:

-- The number of guns that were stolen in each 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014.

Your department previously told us that the number of guns stolen during 2015 was 406 and provided us data on the number of guns stolen from cars from 2006 through 2015. This is a followup to those requests as expand the scope of this project.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. Please make all invoices out to The Trace. The Trace is a nonprofit news organization that is submitting this request through MuckRock's public records request management service.
Thank you for your help with filling this request. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me on my cell phone at (919) 522-6354.

Thank you,
Brian Freskos
