I received your request for information below. Prior to providing a formal response to this request, I want to share a resource available on our website that I believe will meet your needs. We have a series of reports that provide the number of animal related crash data by county from 2003 through 2018. Data in these reports was obtained by utilizing the “Animal” flag indicator on the NC Collision Report form. Current NC Collision Report Forms do not distinguish between animal types. However, data analyses shows that approximately 90% of all reported animal related crashes involve deer.
Here is a link to the most recent report with data through 2018. The 2019 data will be published later this year.
Please let me know if this type of report will meet your needs and I can provide the links to all of the reports. If not, I suggest we have a phone call to discuss your request further. My contact information is below.

* Statewide Animal Crashes – County Rankings from the 2010 Summary, which contains years 2003 – 2010
* Statewide Animal Crashes – County Rankings from the 2018 Summary, which contains years 2011 – 2018
* Statewide Animal Crashes – Cost and injury data from the 2012 Summary, which contains years 2010 – 2012
* Statewide Animal Crashes – Cost and injury data from the 2015 Summary, which contains years 2013 – 2015
* Statewide Animal Crashes – Cost and injury data from the 2018 Summary, which contains years 2016 – 2018
Note that the data was not available in any other format than a PDF prior to the 2018 Summary; however, I was able to manually convert the data to excel for the older summaries.
In going through this exercise, I found an error in the 2018 Summary. Attached is the revised PDF document for the 2018 Summary, which has also been uploaded to the website.
