Good morning,

The records request below was forwarded to the Higher Education Coordinating Commission from the Oregon Department of Education.

I wanted to acknowledge receipt of your records request and also see if you could help us with refining the 15 years of information requested.

We sometimes have course catalogs, mailings, reports that include all colleges within Oregon that may name the school. If you can specify what kind of documents and information you are looking for that would help us to better narrow the request down.

Example: If you are looking for only investigation history and correspondence related to those complaints at the college please let us know. That will significantly reduce the search of records by our IT department.

Thank you.

Good afternoon Theresa,

Thank you so much for such a quick response! I hope you are as well as you can be!

Standard course catalogs and mailings are not necessary. I am specifically interested in records related to compliance with disability, sexual and domestic violence, and drug and alcohol laws and standards. Records that can clarify the transition between Colin Diver and John Kroger particularly as previous reporting (ie. https://www.wweek.com/portland/article-19275-the-smartest-guy-in-the-room.html) has described a "'forceful and direct message,' [from] state and federal officials told [Diver] to 'shut down illegal drug use and distribution at Reed College.'" Further, the Department of Community Safety at the College, headed by Granger since June 2010, can provide insight into how exactly this "shut down" occurred. Any methods by which this "shut down" occurred are of interest as previous reporting (ie. https://bit.ly/31LItCd) has recorded unnecessary use of force on a handcuffed psychiatric patient while Granger was Public Safety Director at OHSU. Finally, I am interested in John Kroger's abrupt departure from the college amid widely reported student protests, links between the college and Appleby offshore investments (https://bit.ly/3dghWlE), and reporting on issues in reporting procedures for sexual assault (https://bit.ly/3m4VPT8) and disability grievances (https://bit.ly/31A5s30). Thank you so much for your time.

Be well,
Maisa Rania

Appreciate the clarification. I will connect with the department that handles schools within our jurisdiction. It is possible that this school falls under private schools. If so, I will find out whom you should contact.

Thank you.

Good morning,

I was able to connect with the certifying department at the HECC. Since this school is an independent institution it is exempt from HECC-ODA oversight and the HECC does have statutory authority other this school.

I do see Reed College is listed under the Northwest Commission of Colleges and you can go to their website: Home - NWCCU<https://nwccu.org/>.

Sorry I am not more helpful, but I would contact NWCCU.

Thank you.
