I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as I believe this request is in the public interest. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.
In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you very much for all of your help with this request. Looking through the material, I noticed that the inmate surveys conducted as part of the inspection are alluded to but not included. Would it be possible to get copies of these surveys as well?

Good afternoon. I am in receipt of your additional request for the inmate surveys. We do have the records that you have requested. They are currently under review by my legal counsel.
The only concern that I have regarding releasing the surveys is that we do ask inmates’ demographic information at the beginning of the survey and I am concerned that having them publicly available will allow people to identify the inmates and potentially cause them harm and/or become informed of their medical/mental health status, and may also have a dampening effect on inmates’ willingness to complete the survey in the future.
Do you have any thoughts or response to this concern?

Thank you very much for your message. I hear your concern and am quite sympathetic to it. Would it be possible to make a limited range of redactions on the surveys themselves but include general demographic information for all respondents? Do you happen to have other suggestions for how to handle this appropriately?

Hello – thank you for the response. At the back of the report (pages 48-65 in the attached document) is the inmate survey with the aggregated data and then the open-ended responses. Does this meet your needs?
