Pursuant to the California Public Records Act, I hereby request the following records:
Shotspotter technology is being used the the Oakland Police Department ( http://www2.oaklandnet.com/oakca1/groups/police/documents/webcontent/oak070226.pdf ).
Shotspotter technology allows OPD to open "chat sessions" with analysts of of ShotSpotter (see this report: https://medium.com/@tracyrosenberg/find-us-one-more-shot-22b2efd4244d). To quote from the report:
"A Rochester police officer acknowledged at the criminal trial of Silvon Simmons that he left the shooting scene after midnight, returned to the fourth floor at the Central Investigations Division of the Rochester Police Department, logged onto a computer and opened a chat session with Shotspotter".
Therefore under CPRA, we are requesting for the last four complete months ( November, October September, August ) the chat logs between OPD and shotspotter.
Please be aware that this request is being made by a member of the press.
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 calendar days, as the statute requires.
