To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to North Carolina Public Records Law (G.S. §§ 132-1 through 132-10), I hereby request the following documents:

A log of public records requests submitted to the Governor's office that lists the date of request, the requester's name, the requester's organizational affiliation, a description of the request and the date the request was filled. Ideally I would like this information for the period from 2004 to the present.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, and is made in the process of academic research and not for commercial usage.

In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Sincerely,

Erik Peterson

Hello,

Thank you for getting back to me. First and foremost, I regret that we are just now connecting. You sent your request via fax and being that our fax machine is shared by many, and often on the fritz, there was a delay in receiving your request. Apologies for that delay!

I don’t have the records you have requested compiled at this time, but should be able to email you that information very soon.

Please let me know if you have any other questions,

Amanda J. Oliver

Dear Mr. Peterson,

Just want to confirm that we have a correct understanding of what records you are seeking- are you asking for a spreadsheet, or similar document, listing public records requests that have been fulfilled by the Office of the Governor?

Your request asks for records from 2004-present. Our office does not possess records from previous administrations. I’m only able to provide records created after January 5, 2013. I suggest reaching out to The North Carolina State Archives for further guidance.

Please let me know if our office has the correct understanding of the records you are looking for and we will work to provide these records as promptly as possible.
Best,

Hello,

Yes, you're correct. I'm asking for a spreadsheet that lists the public records requests that have been fulfilled by the Office of the Governor. Records from January 5, 2013 to the present work fine for me and I will look into contacting the state archives for the other documents.

Thanks,
Erik

Mr. Peterson,

I’ve attached the documents that are responsive to your request.

I wanted to provide you with a bit of explanation and background on the two documents. The spreadsheet titled “Public Records Requests, Office of the Governor” is an outdated document that is no longer used and was loosely maintained. It was produced by a combination of current and former staff as well as interns.

The other spreadsheet titled, “Pending Requests Master Spreadsheet” is a current working document.

Please let me know if you have any further questions,

Amanda
