To Whom It May Concern—

Pursuant to the North Carolina Public Records Law, I hereby request the following records:

Any documents, files, or records reflecting communications, exchanges, or submissions between representatives or affiliates of the North Carolina State Board of Elections and representatives or affiliates of the Elias Law Group. Particularly, these may relate to the matter of petition signature gathering and the certification of those signatures for Matthew Hoh, who was a self-proclaimed United States Senate candidate engaged in a ballot access campaign in an attempt to qualify the Green Party for the 2022 general election.

Please limit the search for documents, files, or records to the specific time period of April 30, 2022, to July 1, 2022. It is my understanding that these documents, files, or records may have been shared with the NC State Board of Elections for the purpose of assisting them in their decision on whether to certify Green Party Senate candidate Matthew Hoh. The decision during the meeting—after Republican board member Tommy Tucker moved for certification—was to deny certification.

Hoh indicated there would likely be legal action after certification was denied, and it is apparent that the NC State Board of Elections had an interest in finding out if crimes were committed in the process of gathering signatures. The Elias Law Group appears to have submitted allegations after conducting the firm's private investigation of the petitions.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes. It is on a subject matter of public interest and at the time that this request is being submitted it is being covered in the Associated Press, Carolina Journal, WFAE, WUNC, CBS 17, Raleigh News & Observer, and a handful of other local media outlets in North Carolina.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request be filled electronically, by email attachment if available.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 business days.

Sincerely,

Kevin Gosztola
