Communications

From: Tosten Burks

To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the New York Freedom of Information Law, I hereby request the following records:

All communications or memos between NYPD officials and "Rolling Loud Festival" organizers—including Matt Zingler, Tariq Cherif, and the festival's legal counsel—containing the terms "22GZ," "Casanova," "Pop Smoke," "Sheff G," or "Don Q" between October 9, 2019 and October 12, 2019. For the purposes of this request, please include the full chain or thread of messages in which any of these terms appear.

On October 12, 2019, The FADER published a letter dated October 9, 2012 from the NYPD to Rolling Loud that requested the festival remove the five aforementioned artists from performing due to "public safety concerns." (https://www.thefader.com/2019/10/12/report-nypd-pop-smoke-casanova-removed-rolling-loud-gang-affiliation). That same day, Rolling Loud co-founder Tariq Cherif tweeted, "Way more happened behind closed doors. If we want RL to return to NYC, we have no choice but to comply." (https://twitter.com/TariqCherif/status/1183089724518469634)

I therefore request those communications, should they exist, and any other records summarizing meetings, calls, or messages between the NYPD and Rolling Loud organizers regarding "public safety concerns" at the festival in the above-referenced time frame.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 5 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Tosten Burks
