The New York City Police Department (NYPD) has denied your FOIL request FOIL-2020-056-08321 for the following reasons:
In regard to the document(s) which you requested, I must deny access to the records on the basis that your request is too broad in nature and does not describe a specific document.
Please visit FOIL-2020-056-08321 to view additional information and take any necessary action. You may appeal the decision to deny access to material that was redacted in part or withheld in entirety by contacting the agency's FOIL Appeals Officer: foilappeals@nypd.org within 30 days. To whom it may concern:
NYPD's response asserts this "request is too broad in nature and does not describe a specific document." This request specifies the documents requested: curfew citations. To the extent a collection of curfew citations would be considered a broad request (it's not), I've included the specific fields of information requested. This request was sent immediately after a curfew order of approximately one week, which would result in a very limited set of records to deliver.
This is a matter of significant public interest. The public has a right to know how its police department enforces emergency curfew orders.
Per ยง89 4(a) of New York Freedom of Information Law, I am requesting the agency head "fully explain in writing to the person requesting the record the reasons for further denial, or provide access to the record sought."
