From: Mackenzie Farkus

To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the New York Freedom of Information Law, I hereby request the following records:

All files on Jane Jacobs (1916-2006), the influential journalist, activist, and former U.S. Department of State employee. Proof of death is not required, as Jacobs was born over 100 years ago and her death was widely reported.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 5 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Mackenzie Farkus

Mackenzie Farkus:

The records requested via FOIL-2019-860-00050 are open to the public for research in the Municipal Archives. FOIL does not apply. Collections in the Municipal Archives are organized by creating agency; i.e. Mayor Wagner Papers. Within each collection there is a finding aid (see attached example). You will note that the materials are generally indexed by subject and not by the name of a particular individual such as Jane Jacobs. We suggest that you research in secondary source materials (books, newspapers, etc.) to determine the likely subject and date span of possible correspondence between Jacobs and New York City mayors and/or departments. If you would like to make an appointment to conduct research, please email the Archives: research@records.nyc.gov.

Thank you.
