Pursuant to the New York State Freedom of Information Law (1977 N.Y. Laws ch. 933), I hereby request the following records:
A list of all individuals and/or businesses currently licensed as either private investigators and/or security guards by New York State in the following counties:
Nassau County
Rockland County
Suffolk County
New York County
Queens County
Kings County
Richmond County
Bronx County
Westchester County
Putnam County
For each entry on the list, please identify:
The name of the individual or business
The city or town and county the individual or business is located in
The license type (private investigator or security guard)
The date the license expires
The ID number
Note: For entries pertaining to individuals, please identify which business that individual is affiliated with (if applicable).
The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.
In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.
Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 5 business days, as the statute requires.

Please note that personal information consisting of home addresses, telephone numbers and social security number has been deleted since its disclosure would constitute an unwarranted invasion of personal privacy under Section 87(2) of the Public Officers Law. The Department of State does not release home address nor employment records for security guards, as this would be a violation of their personal privacy.
You may appeal this denial by writing to Daniel E. Shapiro, NYS Department of State, One Commerce Plaza 11th Floor, 99 Washington Avenue, Albany, New York 12231-0001, within thirty (30) days of the date of this letter.
