From: Caraghan Selfridge

To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the New Hampshire Right to Know Law, I hereby request the following records:

Copies of all reports, lists, and any other communications or information relating to the lawsuits, investigations, or other mediated conflicts of New Hampshire public officials from Jan. 1, 2012 to present. This should include all such lawsuits and otherwise in which a public official was listed as a defendant in all instances in the timeline provided. Please include all available data, including but not limited to the parties involved, the nature of the complaint, the date on which proceedings began, the date on which the resolution was reached, the nature of the resolution, the amount used to settle the conflict, any records related to associated legal fees incurred as part of the conflict, etc. This should include requests for funds used to cover settlement agreements, court costs, or other expenses related to lawsuits.

Further clarification can be provided upon request.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 5 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Caraghan Selfridge

Although we have received your request, it is not clear what you are looking for, given your caption indicating that you intended to submit this to the "Public Integrity and Economic Crime Unit". Your request for "all reports, lists, and any other communications or information relating to the lawsuits, investigations, or other mediated conflicts" for that relate to "any public official" is also so broad that it does not comply with RSA 91-A:4,IV requirement that requests under RSA 91 must be for governmental records "reasonably described".

If you wish to refine your request, you may also wish to consider that, to the extent this office has any records related to investigations of state employees related to personnel issues, such records would be exempt from disclosure under RSA 91-A as attorney client privileged, as well as being exempt as personnel records and as records that concern internal personnel practices. Further, to the extent that we represent the state officials named in litigation, our records of that representation are not subject to RSA 91-A as attorney work product, as well as attorney-client privilege.

Hi Nancy,

Thank you for your quick response. I am a data journalism student at Boston University working on a follow-up story with my professor examining public employees in New England who have been convicted of crimes over the past decade. Here is a link to the story I am updating: https://www.publicintegrity.org/2012/04/30/8778/violating-public-trust
I am trying to find the dispositions of cases brought by the New Hampshire Attorney General against public employees in the state from Jan. 1, 2008 to present. I am somewhat new at making public records requests so I apologize for any confusion. I hope this follow-up email clarifies what I am looking for. If you could help me it would be greatly appreciated.

Best,
Caraghan Selfridge
