Dear MuckRock,

We have received your public records request dated 6/20/17 (see below).

Under the Nevada System of Higher Education public records policy, responding to your request constitutes an extraordinary use of personnel resources and is thus subject to advanced payment of a fee. Due to the magnitude of your request, the University of Nevada estimates that thousands of records will potentially be responsive to your request. Due to established retention schedules, only six (6) years' worth of records exist. It is estimated that it will take at least six (6) months to respond to your request and the estimated cost is $40,000. The University of Nevada requires advanced payment before it can commence preparing the requested records. See NRS 239.052; see also Nevada System of Higher Education Procedures and Guidelines Manual, Chapter 4, Section 18 - Fees for Public Records.

The deposit of $40,000, payable to the Board of Regents, is an estimate only. (See the address below for mailing of your check.) The University of Nevada will provide a final invoice reflecting the actual cost incurred upon completion of reviewing and compiling the requested records. The University of Nevada will refund any overpayment; conversely, you will be responsible for paying any shortfall before the records will be released.

Upon receipt of the required advanced deposit of $40,000, the University of Nevada personnel will commence retrieving and reviewing the records. Again, please take notice pursuant to NRS 239.0107(1)(c), that given the volume of documents requested and the amount of time it will take to perform the above tasks relating thereto, the University of Nevada will not be able to provide the requested documents for at least six (6) months after receipt of final payment in full.

Thank you. Lee Bale
