Hello,
Thank you for your response.

I'm still interested in these records; However, I'm unable to pay the fee. Do you have any recommendations on how I can narrow my request while still receiving responsive documents?

Best,
Sarika

From: Department of Correctional Services

Sarika,
The most significant portion of the staff hours estimated for this request were for your first bullet point ("Any informational and educational materials distributed in correctional facilities about housing options available to inmates post-release"). Removing that portion of the request would cut down considerably on the staff hours needed to complete the request. Narrowing that bullet point to a specific city/region would also reduce the number of staff hours needed, although not as substantially as removing it all together. Focusing on resources directed towards specific groups of people (e.g. women, veterans) or discussing specific types of residential programs (e.g. substance abuse) might also reduce staff hours a bit.

If you do decide to proceed with a modified request, let me know how you would like it modified and I will reopen the request and recalculate the estimated staff hours. If the modified request may still result in a cost to you, I will get your approval before proceeding.

Sincerely,

Kathleen,
Thank you for your recommendation.

The first bullet point includes the information I am most interested in, so would we be able to please remove items 2-4 and modify the request to the following:
-Any informational and educational materials distributed in the Omaha Correctional Center about housing options available to inmates post-release

Thank you,
Sarika

From: Department of Correctional Services

Sarika,
Before I begin drawing up an official revised estimate, I wanted to quickly clarify:
NDCS has Reentry Specialists that meet with incarcerated individuals before their release. These Reentry Specialists can provide individuals with specific housing resources that apply to them. Individuals at the Omaha Correctional Center (OCC ) may be interested in residing outside Omaha following release. As such, I consider nearly all of the housing resources we have as applying to individuals releasing from OCC. Completing this records request would take approximately 15 hours of staff time. Determining which specific resources have been provided to individuals at OCC in the past, if possible, would add substantial time to this request.

A request for resources related to housing opportunities within the city of Omaha, however, would take staff approximately 9 hours to complete. A lower population area/region like Columbus-Norfolk-Fremont would take more like 6 hours of staff time, whereas a request for resources regarding housing in the city of Lincoln would be estimated at around 7.5 hours.

I'll work on preparing an estimate for the revised request you provided yesterday ("Any informational and educational materials distributed in the Omaha Correctional Center about housing options available to inmates post-release") unless you notify me that you would like to further modify.

Sincerely,

Kathleen,
Thank you for your follow-up email.

I'd be interested in resources related to housing opportunities within the city of Omaha.

Thanks,
Sarika
