Pursuant to the Tennessee Public Records Act, I hereby request the following records:

Dear Public Records Officer,

Pursuant Tennessee Open Records Act, §10-7-503 et seq., I am requesting the following records from the Nashville Police Department regarding all weapons law violation arrests, including illegal gun possession, conducted between January 1, 2010 through May 9, 2022, or through the date this request is fulfilled. Please provide these records in a text-delimited format such as Excel. I’m requesting the data include the following fields:

Incident ID
Arrestee ID unique to the individual arrested
Date and time of the arrest
Name of arrestee
Arrestee DOB, age at time of arrest, race/ethnicity, and sex
Name of arresting officer and badge ID
Arrest address (including street name, neighborhood area, zip code, and longitude and latitude)
Charge statute and description
UCR code
Cause of arrest (traffic violation, etc.)
Arrestee armed (Y/N) indicator
Gang affiliated (Y/N) indicator
Name and type of weapon recovered

A data dictionary explaining the meaning of each data field provided

I understand not all of the information I’ve requested may be available. Please contact me beforehand and let me know before denying the request outright or significantly reducing the scope of my request.

If you have these documents in electronic form, I request the electronic format in lieu of hard copies. As a member of the media, I request a waiver of all fees for this request. Please also take into consideration that I am a reporter working on deadline and as such would appreciate it if you could expedite our request in any way. Please provide us with the records as soon as they become available.
