Informational copies of all American Indian and Alaska Native death certificates held by the Plumas County Clerk-Recorder's office.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Dear MuckRock News,

We are in receipt of your request for Informational copies of all American Indian and Alaska Native death certificates held by the Plumas County Clerk-Recorder's office, dated October 7, 2020.

Death records are exempt from disclosure under the Public Records Act pursuant to California Health and Safety Code section 102230(a) (2).
HEALTH AND SAFETY CODE Section 102230 102230. (a) (2) The birth, death, and marriage record indices prepared pursuant to paragraph (1) and all comprehensive birth, death, and marriage record indices prepared or maintained by local registrars and county recorders shall be kept confidential and shall be exempt from disclosure under the California Public Records Act. (Chapter 3.5 (commencing with Section 6250) of Division 7 of Title 1 of the Government Code).

Please note that your stated intent to make such records available to the general public is not permitted pursuant to subdivision (c)(7)(A) of Section 102230) of the Health and Safety Code (c)(7) Requesters of the birth, death, or non-confidential marriage record indices prepared pursuant to this subdivision shall provide proof of identity, complete a form, and sign the form under penalty of perjury. The form shall include all of the following: (A) An agreement not to release or allow public access to the birth, death, or non-confidential marriage record indices, and an agreement not to post the indices on the Internet, except as permitted by this subdivision.

Also attached is a copy of the official form required by subdivision (b) (5) of Section 102230 to request each individual death record. Each death record is indexed by the name of the decedent. The index does not include the decedents' race, but does include the full name and date of death.

The fee for each individual request is $21.00 as provided in the attached fee schedule and a completed form is required with each request for each specified name of each decedent.
