To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Government Records Access and Management Act, I hereby request the following records:

Policies, procedures and/or documents pertaining to indexing for FamilySearch, otherwise known as Intellectual Reserve, Inc., a genealogical non-profit operated by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS), by inmates within facilities run by the Uintah County Sheriff's Office. This includes any documents regarding Family History Centers operated within such facilities, and any documents referencing the LDS division named LDS Correctional Services, or the new LDS division named FamilySearch Correctional Facility Services.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Burkely Hermann

From: Uintah Sheriff

All policies, procedures and/or documents pertaining to indexing for FamilySearch are maintained by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) and their volunteers that come to the facility.

Uintah Sheriff,
I appreciate your response, but I am confused by it. I have requested documents from other agencies within Utah and they have provided documents, like memorandums of understanding, without an issue. My understanding is that documents like MOUs are public documents, so they shouldn't be maintained by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS). So, if you could re-review that policy, that would be great. In any case, can you confirm that there is a LDS indexing program in the facility managed by your sheriff's office? That's what I'm gathering from your last communication, but I wanted to make sure.

Best regards,
Burkely Hermann

Hello,

I'm sorry for the confusion, I guess I was also confused. I thought you were looking for policy and procedural documents that the Sheriff's Office has regarding Family Search, which we don't have. We do have an MOU, which I forgot about. This is the only document that we have regarding Family Search. Please see attached.

From: Burkely Hermann

Uintah Sheriff,
Thanks for sending that MOU. I really appreciate your help on this and sorry for the confusion. If I have any further questions, I'll let you know.

Best regards,
Burkely Hermann
