Pursuant to the Massachusetts Public Records Law, M.G.L. c.66, §10, I hereby request the following records:

Any email messages and/or attachments sent or received on any official BPS email account between January 1, 2016 and present that concern or make mention of any of the following topics:

- The November 2016 ballot question regarding charter school policy, a/k/a Question2
- “Great Schools Massachusetts”
- “Save Our Public Schools”
- “Boston Education Justice Alliance” (BEJA)
- “Massachusetts Education Justice Alliance” (MEJA)
- “Massachusetts Jobs with Justice”
- “Citizens for Public Schools”

I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as we believe this request is in the public interest, as suggested but not stipulated by the recommendations of the Massachusetts Supervisor of Public Records. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.

I expect the request to be filled in an accessible format, including for screen readers, which provide text-to-speech for persons unable to read print. Files that are not accessible to screen readers include, for example, .pdf image files as well as physical documents.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 calendar days, as the statute requires.

This letter is to acknowledge receipt of your Public Records Request, dated
September 15, 2016, which was forwarded to our office on September 22,
2016. We have reviewed your request and have determined that it will take
some time to respond to. The Massachusetts Public Records Law, G. L. c.66,
§ 10, and its implementing regulations govern your request. We are
reviewing your request to determine whether the documents sought are “public
records” subject to disclosure and, where applicable to estimate the cost
of complying with your request.

As provided by the public records law, the charge for copying documents is
five cents

($0.05) per paper copy and the cost for emails will be $0.73 ($0.05 +
$0.68) per email and, twenty-five cents ($.25) per page for microfilm,
fifty cents ($.50) per page for computer printouts. There also is a charge
for the time it takes to search for the records, remove any exempt data,
and photocopy and re-file the record. In addition, if copies of public
records are to be mailed to you, there is a charge for the actual cost of
postage.

We will notify you as to the availability of the records requested and the
estimated costs of complying with the request. In the meantime, please feel
free to contact this office if you have any questions.
