Dear Ms. Ruiz,

Thank you very much for your response to my Public Records Act request for purchase and deployment records of certain equipment used by the Monterey County Sheriff's Office. I appreciate it.

In your response, you asked for clarification of #3 in my request, which was for:
Records of deployment by your agency since January 1, 2020 of projectile launch platforms, such as 40mm projectile launchers, "bean bag" or specialty impact munition ("SIM") weapons, and "riot guns" used to disperse chemical agents; explosives and pyrotechnics, such as "flashbang" grenades and explosive breaching tools; and chemical weapons such as "teargas" and "pepper balls".

You specifically asked whether we define "deployment" to include training activities. We would not consider training activities to be a deployment, unless such training occurs out in the community during actual operations. If you have any other clarifying questions, please feel free to contact me by this channel or by phone at 510-282-8983.

Please do let me know on what date you expect to be able to disclose responsive records in response to #3 of my request.

Again, thanks much.

best,
John Lindsay-Poland
