Hi there,

Our vital statistics captures maternal deaths. There is a check box on the death certificate which identifies maternal deaths. When a maternal death is identified, a local Maternal Mortality Review Team investigates the death further (FICMMR). However, FICMMR data is exempt from public records requests by law. In addition, the death certificates aren’t always reliable at identifying maternal deaths; about 40% identified on the death certificate turn out to not be maternal deaths.

Death certificates, however, are available to the public, but they are not searchable. If you want, you could visit vital records and manually look at the index books.

Finally, we do not know what you mean by ‘data frame’ or ‘data record layout’. Please explain further.
