Pursuant to the California Public Records Act, I hereby request the following records:

Informational copies of all American Indian and Alaska Native death certificates held by the Mono County Clerk's office.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 calendar days, as the statute requires.

Hello:

I am in receipt of your request. While we do receive death certificate records to our indexing system, they are generated by our Public Health Department. Our office then provides customers certified copies of death certificates upon request. There is no way for us to search by "American Indian and Alaska Native" death certificates with our indexing system, as we can only search by name or by date of death. I don't know if Public Health may be able to do more intensive searches (as I am unsure how their indexing system works).

So my response to you is that we have no way of providing documents responsive to your request from this office. Would you like a contact person at Public Health? Or perhaps you can give me a bit more information on our research?
