To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Massachusetts Public Records Law, I hereby request the following records:

A spreadsheet of all active student-ran newspapers, magazines and / or broadcasts in all public High Schools in the State of Massachusetts. This should include the school where this newspaper is housed as well.

I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as we believe this request is in the public interest, as suggested but not stipulated by the recommendations of the Massachusetts Supervisor of Public Records. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.

I expect the request to be filled in an accessible format, including for screen readers, which provide text-to-speech for persons unable to read print. Files that are not accessible to screen readers include, for example, .pdf image files as well as physical documents.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Alexa Gagosz

From: Department of Education

Dear Alexa Gagosz:
At the risk of sounding overly bureaucratic and impersonal, I'm writing to request that you resubmit your public records request through the Public Records Center maintained by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (Department).

You can access the Public Records Center here: https://massdese.mycusthelp.com/WEBAPP/_rs/(S(mx54tkm0xfdkeyooptzgeymv))/supporthome.aspx

I am unsure as to why Muckrock directed your request to my, but I do not possess these records nor do my job responsibilities include oversight and monitoring of all public records requests directed to the Department. Resubmission of your request via the Public Records Center serves a variety of useful purposes: it will provide you a tracking number for your request so you can monitor it; it will ensure that the request is efficiently directed to staff in the agency that routinely process the types of requests you are submitting, which will speed up the time needed to process and respond to the request; and, the Public Records center provides a mechanism that makes it easy to share large files of responsive records that cannot otherwise be sent by email.

You can create your own profile in the Public Records Center. Creating a profile requires only the provision of accurate contact information, which the Department will use to ask questions about your request, if necessary, and to provide you with the records you have requested. Typically, the Department responds provides free access to public records requested through the Public Records Center.

When you resubmit this request, please direct it to the Commissioner's Office. As a courtesy, I will forward this response to a colleague from the Commissioner's office, who can begin working to identify any responsive records the Department may possess.

Thank you, - Josh Varon
