To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Massachusetts Public Records Law, I hereby request the following records:

1) A copy of the Massachusetts Fire Incident Reporting System database, with individual fire-level data, for the dates Jan. 1, 2016 until the day this request is processed.

I ask that all fees be waived as I am a journalist and I intend to use the requested records to disseminate information in the public interest.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 business days, as the statute requires.

Request received.

Please be advised that the Department of Fire Services is unable to release 2017 information/data because we have not yet performed our full quality control measures on that information. In addition, many communities have not yet reported all of their 2017 data to the MFIRS system, and staff is currently reaching out to those communities to remind them to submit their data. In addition, since we are still in early 2018, cities/towns have not yet reported information/data to MFIRS for 2018.

We can provide you with data for calendar 2016 right now, and if you would like, could also give you 2015 data if that would be helpful.

My Research and Data Analyst has reviewed your request for information and has come back to me inquiring as to the following:

1. Do you want all incidents or just fires?

2. Does you want all fires or just specific types (i.e. residential)?

3. And what fields do you want?
