From: Brian Keaney

To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Massachusetts Public Records Law, M.G.L. c.66, ยง10, I hereby request the following records:

Any document(s) showing the number of instructional hours offered to students by the Dedham Public Schools at the elementary and secondary levels for the most recent year available. Additionally, any document showing a waiver requested or granted to get around 603 CMR 27.04 during the last two Coordinated Program Reviews.

I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as we believe this request is in the public interest, as suggested but not stipulated by the recommendations of the Massachusetts Supervisor of Public Records. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.

I expect the request to be filled in an accessible format, including for screen readers, which provide text-to-speech for persons unable to read print. Files that are not accessible to screen readers include, for example, .pdf image files as well as physical documents.

In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 calendar days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Brian Keaney

Dear Mr. Keaney,

If you wish to appeal a denial of your request for public records, please contact the Supervisor of Public Records according to the process described in 950 CMR 36.08.

On the other hand, with just a bit more time, I hope the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education ("ESE") can respond to your request. The problem is that I am not sure if public schools report to ESE the information you requested in a record that can be easily produced for you. I'll keep you posted on what I uncover.

Thank you,

Dear Mr. Keaney,

On October 20, 2015, you requested from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education ("ESE") "[a]ny document(s) showing the number of instructional hours offered to students by the Dedham Public Schools at the elementary and secondary levels for the most recent year available."

Attached is a document that responds to your request. The attached document stems from a program review of the 2012-13 school year. It was obtained during a routine program review of the Dedham public schools. Aside from this, the ESE has no other records that respond to your request.

I hope you find this helpful,

Josh Varon
