RE: PIA 20-3364 (submitted 11/12/2020) Basic
information on all cases (open and closed) of missing American
Indian/Alaska Native persons (including juveniles) within Maryland, from
2000 through 2020; this basic information can include but is not limited
to: person name, age, DOB, incident date, case closure date,
county/jurisdiction in which person was reported missing.
Dear Requester:
This letter is in response to your recent request under the Maryland Public
Information Act for records in the possession of the Maryland State Police
(MSP).
Before we move forward with processing your request, please consider that
the records maintained by this Department requested would be specific to
those incidents responded to by our troopers. The MSP is not the custodian
of statewide totals for the records you are requesting. Please also
consider that our incidents cannot be sorted by race/ethnicity. As such,
we would need to manually pull and review each incident. It is estimated
that it will take staff approximately six hours to locate, review and
redact, if applicable, the records responsive to your request. The hourly
pay for staff involved in this process is $35 an hour. Therefore, the
estimated cost of processing your request is $140.00, which includes the
two hours of free research time required by law.
We will initiate further processing of your request upon receipt of a check
made payable to the Maryland State Police for $140.00. Please note the PIA
number on your payment. Payment should be mailed to:

Pursuant to the Annotated Code of Maryland General Provisions Article §
4-362, you are entitled to seek judicial review of this decision. You may
also refer any concerns about this decision to the Public Access Ombudsman
pursuant to GP § 4-1B-01 et seq.
Sincerely,
