Pursuant to the Maryland Public Information Act, I hereby request the following records:

Please provide copies of all of all audio recordings (approximately 150 hours of tape), notebooks, and other documents seized by the Maryland State Police during the search of the home of Scott Caruthers, 597 Scott Dr. Westminster, Maryland 21157, on October 2-4, 2002, connected to the arrest of Scott Caruthers.

The seized audio recordings, notebooks, and other materials have been widely described in the news media, namely in reports by the Baltimore Sun:

I am a member of the news media and request classification as such. I have previously written for Esquire magazine, Popular Mechanics magazine, and Gizmodo. The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 calendar days, as the statute requires.

Seized recordings, notebooks and other documents related to the
incident with Scott Caruthers in October 2002

Dear Requester:

On October 19, 2020, the Maryland State Police (MSP) received your request
under the Public Information Act (Annotated Code of Maryland, General
Provisions Article §§4-101 through 4-601) seeking the above captioned
information.

This letter is to inform you that the MSP is no longer in possession of the
requested records. The retention period within the MSP in such matters if
5 years.

If you are unsatisfied with this response, there are remedies available for
review pursuant to GP §4-203. You may seek judicial review of this decision
in the appropriate Circuit Court in accordance with GP §4-362. You may also
seek dispute resolution in accordance with GP §4-lB-04.

The Maryland State Police now considers this request to be closed.
