This is in response to your Public Records Act Request below. We confirmed with our County Assessor’s staff that in California, rental cars are not subject to local assessment by County Assessors. Rather, the State Department of Motor Vehicles is responsible for billing and collecting annual registration fees for all vehicles. If you have future inquiries relating to the County Assessor’s responsibilities, you can direct questions to them at email@example.com<mailto:firstname.lastname@example.org>.
Please let me know if you need anything additional.

Dear Ms. Barrera,
Thank you for your prompt reply. I will confirm with the State Department of Motor Vehicles, however I do not entirely understand.
Since cars owned by rental car companies are personal property used in a business, it is my understanding that the county assessor collects those personal property taxes pursuant to the full assessment process just as would be done with any other business personal property (such a furniture, manufacturing equipment, computers, construction equipment, machinery, etc.) Am I misinformed?
Thank you for your consideration.
We were informed by the Assessor that they do not assess rental car vehicles. Since property tax assessments are under their purview, I suggest you direct any questions to them directly at the email I previously provided.
Thank you Arlene. ~ Robert
