Dear Tom,

I'm Sui Duong and I am an attorney at the Mayor's Office. I was recently
made aware of the following email conversation thread. It appears to be a
back and forth between two automated systems.

*---------- Forwarded message ----------

From: Tom Nash

Hi Sui,

It does appear that way. Is this FOIA request something you can respond to?

Thanks

Tom

From: Sui Duong

Dear Tom,

My prior email to you must have gotten cut off due to the length of the
pasted email thread. We can handle the request.

I want to let you know ahead of time that we will be interpreting the
request in accordance with California law and the California Public Records
Act Request. It's actually much more strict than FOIA- eg. we have 10 days
to respond and usually 14 more days to produce documents, not 90 as allowed
by FOIA.

To avoid future confusion, I've pasted the body of your request below.
Please let me know if this is not your entire request:

*To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the California's Sunshine Amendment (Cal. Const. Art. I, §
3(b)), I hereby request the following records:

Any formal or informal reports commissioned by or delivered to the Mayor's
Office regarding the Occupy LA movement, whether concerning the public
safety, sanitation or other factors.

I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as I believe this
request is in the public interest. The requested documents will be made
available to the general public free of charge as part of the public
information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the
news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for
commercial usage.

In the event that fees cannot be waived, I would be grateful if you would
inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would
prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available
or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I
look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 business
days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Tom Nash*

I'll be in touch again in about a week either with your requested records
or with an exact date of when the records will be produced.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
