To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the Massachusetts Public Records Law, I hereby request the following records:

Copies of incident and/or arrest reports that involve responses to public schools within your jurisdiction during the 2021-2022 school year. For the Lakeville Police Department, this would mean Assawompset Elementary School, George R. Austin Intermediate School, Freetown-Lakeville Middle School, and Apponequet Regional High School. For the Freetown Police Department, this would solely mean the Freetown Elementary School on Bullock Road in Freetown, Massachusetts. This request is being submitted with the understanding that details of juvenile records are exempt from disclosure per Massachusetts law.

I also request that, if appropriate, fees be waived as we believe this request is in the public interest, as suggested but not stipulated by the recommendations of the Massachusetts Supervisor of Public Records. The requested documents will be made available to the general public free of charge as part of the public information service at MuckRock.com, processed by a representative of the news media/press and is made in the process of news gathering and not for commercial usage.

I expect the request to be filled in an accessible format, including for screen readers, which provide text-to-speech for persons unable to read print. Files that are not accessible to screen readers include, for example, .pdf image files as well as physical documents.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 business days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Joseph Pasteris

Good afternoon Joseph,

I have received your request for all responses to the 4 schools in Lakeville. I did a quick address search for each school (Apponequet, G.R. Sustin Intermediate, Free/Lake Middle school and Assawompsett Elem.) and found there to be over 700 responses to those addresses.

I am replying to you to see if you would like to modify your request as to not incur astronomical search and segregation fees. The fee's will be for search and segregation of requested information allowed by the Ma Public Records Guidelines. If you would like to modify your request I am happy to speak with you in the various ways to determine what you are looking for.

I will be waiting for your response to proceed or not.

Hi Kristen,

Assuming your statement means the police responded over 700 times to the schools during the 2021-2022 school year, reports wouldn't be necessary as search fees would indeed be astronomical. Simply a date, name of officer, and offense list would suffice, assuming this would lower costs.

Thanks,

Joseph Pasteris

Hello Joseph,

I have attached the responses to the 4 schools in Lakeville. They show the date, call type and action taken but does not include the officers name as it is not an option when searching for the information you requested in our computer system.

As you can see the large number of responses are mostly due to property checks, alarms and school crossings which could occur several times a day.

If you have any questions or require additional information I am happy to assist you.

Thank you,

Hi Kristen,

Thanks for the response. It appears you sent the incorrect response letter for my request, as it quotes a request I didn't make and says it will withhold information related to LTC records. Is there a correct response letter I should expect? Again, thanks for everything!
