The KCSO is experiencing a high volume of open requests, exceeding 550. Of those requests, 443 came in prior to your request. We will respond to your request through a series of installments and depending upon your clarification and the results of our searches, those installments may exceed a dozen. The KCSO may charge fees as allowed under the Public Records Act. Reference RCW 42.56.120. For more information about fees that your request may be subject to, please click here and select (https://www.kingcounty.gov/depts/sheriff/services/public-disclosure/faqs-for-public-disclosure.aspx) “What is the cost to obtain records”. Depending on the results of our search, we will determine whether or not fees apply to your request and we may require full payment of each installment prior to their release. The KCSO began holding email on October 16, 2012, so any email not saved in a users mailbox on that day would no longer be available. Once we have completed our searches, we will begin reviewing information to determine responsiveness. Each and every email and document will be reviewed thoroughly prior to release to determine whether exemptions apply. Common exemptions are intelligence and essential to effective law enforcement. Based on current request load, volume and complexity of responsive records and staffing, you can expect a first installment of records by September 7, 2018. If we are unable to meet this self-imposed deadline for any reason, we will let you know. If we are able to provide a response sooner, we will certainly do so. Please reply to this message or log in to the Online Request System if you have any questions or would like to clarify or cancel this request. Sincerely, MITZI JOHANKNECHT, King County Sheriff
