To Whom It May Concern:

Pursuant to the California Public Records Act (California Government Code §§ 6250), I hereby request the following records:

For the last five years, from 1/1/12 to the date this request is processed I seek annual expenditures on vehicle purchases, upgrades and maintenance. This is for any vehicles in operation by the department.

If there are any problems with the scope of my request, I would be happy to talk and reduce the time range or make other changes. Thank you.

The requested documents will be made available to the general public, and this request is not being made for commercial purposes.

In the event that there are fees, I would be grateful if you would inform me of the total charges in advance of fulfilling my request. I would prefer the request filled electronically, by e-mail attachment if available or CD-ROM if not.

Thank you in advance for your anticipated cooperation in this matter. I look forward to receiving your response to this request within 10 calendar days, as the statute requires.

Sincerely,

Curtis Waltman

Mr. Waltman,
The Fleet management unit advised this request is overly broad and the unit does not maintain a running account of expenditures.
It would require the unit to research every receipt and invoice, if they still exist, over the last 5 years and California Government Code 6250 et seq. does not require the Sheriff's Office to do research or create a document to respond to a Public Records Act request.
Sincerely,

Mr. Waltman,
A followup response to your Public Records Act request. This is the
information that is readily accessible by Fiscal Year:
· FY 12-13: The Sheriff’s Office spent approximately
$1,907,919.86 on vehicle maintenance and $3,995,080.50 on vehicle
purchases.
· FY 13-14: The Sheriff’s Office spent approximately
$1,927,184.41 on vehicle maintenance and $3,133,774.86 on vehicle
purchases.
· FY 14-15: The Sheriff’s Office spent approximately
$1,849,826.49 on vehicle maintenance and $4,645,237.56 on vehicle
purchases.
· FY 15-16: The Sheriff’s Office spent approximately
$1,851,826.47 on vehicle maintenance and $3,035,689.59 on vehicle
purchases.
· FY 16-17*: The Sheriff’s Office spent approximately
$1,477,310.07 on vehicle maintenance and $1,459,449.76 on vehicle
purchases.
The current FY 16-17 has not closed out yet and there are still
invoices that have not been processed.
Your questions regarding upgrades is vague. I will assume that those
cost figures are included in vehicle maintenance unless you can to be
more specific to determine if we have the dollar numbers to respond.
Sincerely;
