Thank you for your request. We are not able to find any record of receiving or responding to this original request dated March 16, 2018 request. Please see the following laboratory data per your specific questions:

- Policies and directives for investigating and responding to reports of sexual assault

Investigating and responding to reports of sexual assaults is not a function of the Division of Criminal Investigation's Criminalistics Laboratory or the DCI in general. Local agencies typically investigate these crimes and submit their evidence to our lab for analysis. There have been numerous times when local law enforcement agencies have chosen not to submit kits for testing.

- Number of sexual assault evidence collection kits that have been tested from Jan. 1, 2000 to the date this request is process

The previous generation laboratory information management system did not have the capability to capture data related to specific case evidence types that were worked in different sections of the lab, therefore, not all years of your request are available. For the period from 01/01/2009 to 04/16/2021, we estimate having closed 4,683 cases involving sexual assault kits. * Please note - Not all sexual assault cases submitted to our lab involve a sexual assault evidence kit.

- Number of untested sexual assault evidence collection kits from Jan. 1, 2000 to the date this request is processed.

Nearly all sexual assault cases submitted to the DCI Laboratory are worked eventually. In the past year, the DCI Lab has very significantly reduced the number of assignments in our DNA casework backlog. The untested kits that remain at the laboratory are those submitted more recently and are in the queue to be worked soon. As of 04/16/2021, we had a total of 104 sexual offense cases in our backlog to be worked.
Please let me know if you have further questions.
Thank you.
